i need something free i can download (not a free trial) that works well and wont cost me anything?! any good stuff? is norton antivirus free? what is it exactly? what should i get for my laptop to help with crashing and viruses? I dont have a problem with pop ups or anything but i get internet crashes and things.

This program provides a firewall and front-line defense against many Internet threats. Symantec, the distributor of Norton Internet Security, sells yearly subscriptions and this usually works out pretty well.
Microsoft has it's ''Windows Defender'' software which IS free, a free download to protect your computer against intruders.
And there is Spybot Search and Destroy, which tackles other kinds of Internet threats such as adware and spyware.
You pretty much need all three working together to feel safe and it is worth it, isn't it? To feel safe? I think so.
Norton is recommended because they've been at it the longest, Norton is the last name of a PC hardware and software genius, Peter Norton, who wrote ''Inside the IBM PC.'' Wonderful book. His company provided code that allows people to recover files they deleted from their computer, Norton Utilities. Anyway, he sold his company and it became Symantec.
